Below are answers to the Top Ten Questions about Glow of the Caribbean Jewelry. To learn even more, click here.
#1) Is it real?
YES, the gemstones & Diamonds are 100% natural. There are no coatings to the gemstones or diamonds. There are no wires batteries and no light bulbs.
#2) How does it work?
Remember when we were kids and you would take a magnifying glass outside in the bright light; turn the magnifier on an angle to create a pinpoint of light…then you could smoke leaves and even catch a piece of paper on fire. This is the basic principle behind our trademarked and Patented Ocular Cut Diamonds and Gemstones.
#3) How long will the Diamonds & Gemstones Glow in the dark?
The Diamonds and Gemstones can glow up to 8 hours in total darkness. **Because this is a natural phenomenon there are many factors that create the glow. The *UV index is the most important. The higher the UV index* above the index standard of 3 the better the afterglow. It’s basically the same as getting a suntan. The stronger the sun’s rays the quicker the tan. Typically the further south you go toward the equator the higher the UV index.
* UV Index is a standard for measuring the Ultraviolet Light Value by a numerical value. 0 is no UV light with the value of 3 being just enough to start tanning 8 or 9 is much stronger. The highest value ever recorded was in Cusco Peru with a value of 25.
**In testing the longest emission of the afterglow from an Ocular Cut Brand Diamond after being removed from strong UV light and placed in TOTAL DARKNESS was 8 hours.
#4) Is there any adverse effect to me as I wear my Glow of the Caribbean Gemstones?
There is nothing that can cause an adverse effect from wearing our patented Jewelry.
The Diamonds and Gemstones along with the refractive phosphorescent material that is embedded into the precious metal of Gold and silver are completely inert. The rare Earth materials are natural and non-evasive to people or animals.
#5) How long have they been on the market?
The very first Piece of Patented Technology Jewelry was sold under the name Night Glow Diamonds to an engagement Customer from Southern Indiana in the USA in March of 2013.
Testing had actually started quietly in a small town in Southern Indiana during the spring of 2012 immediately after the discovery was made. The first patent application was submitted to the USA Patent and Trademark office IN 2013. International recognition in the top International trade magazines from Switzerland to Moscow accrued in 2015. The USA patent office granted the first patent on October 11th 2016 patent number 9,462,859 B2. International sales commenced in 2018 after rigorous study and testing.
#6) How do I take care of my Glow of the Caribbean pieces…Cleaning, polishing, or Ultra-sonic care?
You treat Night Glow Diamonds & Natural Gemstones just like you would any other piece of Jewelry. You can polish your Jewelry piece, plus you can have it steam cleaned at your local Jewelers. We highly recommend doing this; A clean gemstone stone glows much better than an oily or debris-clogged Night Glow…We do recommend warning your Jeweler first “that it is a Night Glow as strong friction from the steam will cause it to glow and could startle your Jeweler (if he does not know it’s a Glow of the Caribbean)! Even the strongest of Ultra-Sonics should not hurt your Glow of the Caribbean jewelry..
NOTE: Any Glow of the Caribbean Jewelry MUST be done by an authorized and fully trained repair center. There is a list of USA, Caribbean, and foreign repair centers on this website.
#7) What about repairs or sizing of your Glow of the Caribbean ring?
ALL REPAIRS must be returned to an authorized repair center. If someone other than an authorized repair center does the work your warranty will be voided and damage may occur to Glow of the Caribbean Jewelry.
This is a Patent protected product that requires specific training along with specific tools to do the repairs. Please check the website for an authorized repair center near you.
#8) Are all Glow of the Caribbean jewelry pieces guaranteed?
There is a full 3-year guarantee. If there is a problem of any kind with your Jewelry piece please let us know….even if it is full of pie dough caught under the gemstone or diamond causing it to not glow, we are here to help.
Please note that your low of the Caribbean Jewelry piece glows from Nature and is real; meaning that you will not always see the glow. When the UV Index is low, particularly below the index standard of 4 (you can find the UV index on your cell phone’s weather App by scrolling down under your location to UV Index) your glow performance will be at a bare minimum. An Index reading at or under the value of 3 will not be strong enough to charge the glow. The natural accuracy of the glow is best viewed in TOTAL DARKNESS and as the pupils of your eyes adjust to the night light. Please do not expect to go out to dinner and see your Jewelry glowing across the room, although depending on the UV index it could glow for a short time in a dimly lit room, but probably not. Remember this is real and the atmospheric conditions affect the outcome of the glow.
Driving at night in the dark, taking late-night walks in darkness, the movie theater, and of course, putting your Glow of the Caribbean jewelry piece next to your bed stand in the dark of the night will forever be a subtle glowing reminder of that special place or that very special moment in your life.
You can always use one of our dedicated Gem-Lite key chain lights (sold by authorized retailers) or purchased through our website to show off the glow in dim light. Because the UV strength in the key chain light is much lower than that of the suns UV light the intense glow will be short-lived….but the kaleidoscopic play of light and dark on the facets in the center gemstone is mesmerizing to look at and best seen using the Gem-Lite* dedicated key chain light. The afterglow can easily be seen in dim light for a few minutes using your key chain light. Your friends will absolutely be amazed to see the glow from your Ocular Cut gemstone or diamond. It will be the hit of the party and a true conversation piece.
#9) How did you come up with this idea and what is the story behind Glow?
It all started in a small town family-owned Jewelry business in Southern Indiana that specialized in custom designs and repairs. In 2012 Bill Disinger, a gemologist and jewelry designer realized that the angles of a diamond could be adjusted to amplify and converge light on a surface below the gemstone similar to the way a magnifying glass turned on an angle converges an intense light causing not just heat, but an intense pinpoint of light. Understanding that the magnifier is glass and glass has a very low refractive index what angles would it take with a diamond or gemstone of a much higher refractive index to converge light the same way. After many trials and errors, it was discovered that the cut of the modern-day diamond was not that far off of what it would take to converge light to an intense pinpoint. This all started the several-year journey to develop the afterglow that is seen in the patented glow today.
#10) What is to stop others from copying your design and selling it under other brand names.
First, this is a USA patented technology with a full utility patent and multiple USA provisional patents (See patent details and numbers listed on this website along with Global legal council information). We are blessed with not only USA patent protection by the US Government and the FBI but also foreign provisional patent applications throughout the world including China, India, Russia and the European Union just to name a few.
This along with a strong legal team that is in constant vigilance against piracy will protect the uniqueness and value of your piece for years to come.
